Los Angeles Lakers: Do They Need Another Trade After Steve Nash?

The Los Angeles Lakers shocked most of the NBA world when they acquired Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns for two first-round and two second-round picks (plus cash). Most are thinking the Lakers could be Western Conference favorites again but I am a little more cautious.

My first question here is why stop with Steve Nash? There are rumors of Grant Hill joining the Lakers and while that would be helpful it isn’t the icing on the cake.

Although the Lakers are going to be contenders next year with a core of Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, shouldn’t they re-think their future a bit?

Nash and Bryant aren’t young by any means and Gasol is on the back end of his career. Why not try to move Gasol for some more athleticism on the wing?

While Metta World Peace and Hill were amazing players in their day, they are well past their prime.

The Lakers won’t be able to acquire Dwight Howard unless they are willing to part with Andrew Bynum. They just emptied their draft pick stockpile so there’s no way to use those anymore.

How about the Lakers trade Pau Gasol to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a package surrounding Derrick Williams and draft picks? Wouldn’t Nash make Williams look like a star?

The Lakers are going to have to think about what’s going to happen when Kobe is gone. Why not pull the trigger while Gasol still has value?
