The Boston Celtics have been fully engrossed in trade rumors involving Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant. Multiple reports indicated that they had engaged in talks for the superstar.
Jaylen Brown was the main player linked in these discussions from the Celtics’ side of things. Any trade package that the Celtics offer Brooklyn for Durant would have to include Brown.
In turn, a lot of Celtics fans have been worried about Brown’s thoughts on the matter. When the rumors first came out, he tweeted out “Smh,” and it sent fans into a frenzy.
Why Boston Celtics fans don’t have to worry about Jaylen Brown
Reports have come out that Brown wants to be in Boston, but others have stated that he probably won’t forget that the Celtics included him in trade talks for Durant.
However, a lot of fans are overreacting to all of the rumors. Just because Brown may have been thrown into trade talks for Durant doesn’t mean he’s going to hate the Celtics organization.
Trades are a part of the game, and for the most part, players understand that this is a business. Players get traded all the time, and they get included in rumors even more often than that.
And while Brown may not want to get traded, being included in rumors as the centerpiece for a player as elite as Durant isn’t insulting. If anything, that should fuel Brown’s ego even more.
It’s not like the Celtics are trading him to clear salary space or trying to get off of his contract. They are (reportedly) interested in potentially trading him for one of the greatest players of all time.
The whole idea of trading All-Stars for superstars isn’t a new one, either. In fact, the majority of championship teams as of late have won by way of that sort of game plan.
The Toronto Raptors traded long-time Raptor DeMar DeRozan for Kawhi Leonard. The Los Angeles Lakers traded Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball for Anthony Davis.
Trading for superstars isn’t new, and at this point, most players understand the business side of things. So, while Brown may want to stay in Boston, fans’ idea of his mindset after being included in rumors is being blown way out of proportion.
