Don’t believe everything you’ve read and heard about the reported trade sending All-NBA big man Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t wait long to steal the spotlight from the newly-crowned NBA champion Toronto Raptors.

On Thursday, the Raptors finished off the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the Finals to clinch the franchise’s first league title. On Saturday — before Toronto even had time to put together a championship parade — the Lakers (again) became the top story and focal point of the sport.

The Lakers reportedly agreed to a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans that will deliver three-time All-NBA and three-time All-Defensive Team big man Anthony Davis to L.A., while sending point guard Lonzo Ball, forward Brandon Ingram, swingman Josh Hart and a trio of first-round draft picks to NOLA.

One of those picks is the No. 4 overall choice in next week’s draft.

The deal has been in the making for months, dating back to January when Davis requested a trade and the Lakers tried but failed to make it happen before the league deadline.

This means that for months, everyone who even thinks they know a little something about basketball has been able to add their two cents on whether the Lakers were doing the right thing or setting themselves up for failure by acquiring Davis.

All of that analysis and guesswork created plenty of myths and false narratives about Davis and about the Lakers that have only grown louder since the agreement has been reported.

Here are four misconceptions about the Davis-to-L.A. trade that need to be cleared up.
