The Detroit Pistons need more shooting, plain and simple. As they look to push up the Eastern Conference, they need to make some calls.
Riding a five-game losing streak, the Detroit Pistons have fallen to 13-12. Like a few teams around the NBA, they have regressed after their early season success.
While their defense is still playing decently well at 12th in defensive rating, their offensive efficiency continues to plummet, as they now rank 22nd in offensive rating. They also have the worst effective field goal percentage in the league, which is largely due to their 3-point shooting struggles.
The NBA is moving more towards favoring 3-point shooting over all other forms of scoring. Outside of Blake Griffin and Reggie Bullock, the Pistons have struggled mightily in that area. They are putting up a ton of shots from outside, ranking sixth in the NBA in long range attempts, but they have to start hitting more of them. Second-year shooting guard Luke Kennard has struggled since returning from his shoulder injury, but should bounce back when he gets his conditioning back.
However, for as good as Griffin has been this season, they need to get some help to take some heat off him. The Pistons have a number of players that could be interesting trade pieces for teams that need some bench help. As a team that is looking to expedite its rebuild, Detroit needs to make a move to get that done.
