The Charlotte Hornets need an immediate impact from their 2018 NBA Draft picks. Did they find that player in Miles Bridges?

Draft night was interesting for the Charlotte Hornets as they picked up one of their top options of the 2018 NBA Draft. However, he wasn’t their first selection.

The Hornets originally picked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with the 11th overall pick, but got a call from the Los Angeles Clippers offering a trade for him. The Hornets agreed, having the Clippers draft Miles Bridges for them. In the draft night trade, Charlotte received not only Bridges, but second round draft picks in 2020 and 2021.

Miles Bridges was likely to be a lottery draft pick back in the 2017 NBA Draft, but he stayed for his sophomore campaign with the Michigan State Spartans. He helped the team stay competitive in the Big Ten, guiding them to the regular season conference title in 2017-18. He also helped the school reach the NCAA tournament in both seasons he was there, though they were bounced both times in the second round.

Bridges played the power forward position for the Spartans, but many project he could be versatile enough to play both the 3 and the 4 when on the court. His versatility is just the tip of the iceberg as we dig into five reasons the Mitch Kupchak and the Charlotte Hornets made a smart move in grabbing Miles Bridges.
