Detroit Pistons: 3 reasons Glenn Robinson III is a good addition
By Amaar Burton
The Detroit Pistons continue to make all the right moves this offseason with the addition of high-flying forward Glenn Robinson III as a free agent.
By the time the Detroit Pistons finished the 2018-19 regular season with a sub-.500 record and were on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoffs looking in, it seemed like the upcoming offseason would be a lost cause in terms of significantly improving the team.
The Pistons didn’t have a first round draft pick, didn’t have much room under the salary cap to sign free agents, and generally seemed stuck in a rut as a franchise.
But the Pistons have since gone five-for-five in their major offseason moves.
Firing head coach and president Stan Van Gundy was the right call. Hiring the reigning NBA Coach of the Year, Dwane Casey, as his replacement on the bench was another win. The Pistons then landed two second round draft picks with first round talent in Bruce Brown Jr. and Khyri Thomas.
With Sunday’s news that Detroit has agreed to a free-agent deal with small forward Glenn Robinson III, the Pistons now appear poised to step through a newly-opened door in the East and return to the playoffs in 2019.
Robinson averaged only 4.1 points points per game last season with the Indiana Pacers, but the fourth-year pro from the University of Michigan was sidelined early by an ankle injury and couldn’t quite find his place in the rotation when he came back to a team that had found a successful formula without him.
When healthy, Robinson has potential to be a productive member of a Detroit team that can use what he has to offer. Here are three reasons why he is a good addition for the Pistons.
