The Detroit Pistons went into the 2018 NBA Draft with one pick, and came out of the draft with two players. Here’s why Khyri Thomas was a good selection.
The Detroit Pistons did not have a first round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, but one thing they did have was a glaring vacancy in their front office. Given those two facts, few people outside of the organization expected the Pistons to be very active on draft night.
It would have been understandable for team owner Tom Gores, head coach Dwane Casey and executive adviser Ed Stefanski to settle on a solid player to take with Detroit’s No. 42 pick in the second round and call it a night, since Detroit has yet to officially hire someone responsible for building a roster.
But the Pistons did more than just find a first round talent — Miami shooting guard Bruce Brown Jr. — with their own second round pick.
They also pulled off a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers to bring No. 38 pick Khyri Thomas to Detroit.
Thomas could be the steal of the second round. Here are three reasons why adding the Creighton junior shooting guard to the Pistons’ roster was the right move to make.
