The Detroit Pistons have been stuck in mediocrity the past few seasons, but the hiring of Dwane Casey will have them back in the playoffs in 2019.

The Detroit Pistons haven’t been a topic of conversation nationally in the NBA for over a decade.  In recent years, they’ve even had a difficult time creating excitement locally. The trade for Blake Griffin in January created some buzz, but the Pistons ultimately missed the playoffs and Griffin missed the last eight games of the season.

However, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. The signing of head coach Dwane Casey to a five-year deal on Monday is an enormous boost to the struggling Pistons. The 2017-18 NBCA Coach of the Year is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. Highly respected among his players and peers, Casey is one of the top five coaches in the NBA.

The upcoming season should be the best year for the Pistons since the 2007-08 season ended in defeat to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. The following are five reasons Dwane Casey will lead the Pistons to the playoffs in 2019.
