While No. 40 is not too far off from No. 29, there are still quite a few prospects who can be segmented into the mid-second round of the 2018 NBA Draft. Here are five players the Brooklyn Nets should examine closely.

If you thought the interesting part of the Nets’ offseason was over after pick No. 29, you were sorely mistaken. With two second round picks, this one via the DeMarre Carroll trade, the Brooklyn Nets will have quite a few potential paths to take in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Will they take two risk-reward prospects, hoping one of them is a hit? Do they trade up into the early portion of round two? Does a projected first-rounder slip to 40?

The glorified crapshoot known as the NBA Draft will provide many surprises, as it usually does. One or more of them could land a higher-graded prospect in general manager Sean Marks’s hands, just like when Jarrett Allen fell to No. 21 in 2017.

In the event that luck does not work in Brooklyn’s favor, there are still copious amounts of ways to attack this second round pick. Since second round contracts are not guaranteed, it’s possible for Marks to get schwifty and take some risks. At worst, the Nets can snag an upperclassman who can contribute immediately.

Whatever Marks and the gang decide to do, it will be crucial to the future of the franchise. The Nets haven’t had many draft picks recently, so striking on the few they do have is imperative, if not necessary.
