With a significant need for more depth in the backcourt, the Los Angeles Lakers should have every one of these first round guard prospects on their big board for the 2018 NBA Draft.

There’s a very good chance the Los Angeles Lakers target some guard help during the 2018 NBA Draft. They currently lack a legitimate backup point guard to provide depth behind the somewhat injury-prone Lonzo Ball.

As it so happens, the 2018 NBA Draft class is loaded with quality guards who could be available when the Lakers are finally on the clock at No. 25. That means Magic Johnson and co. should have plenty of options to choose from. However, instead of just telling you that, I’ve decided to pinpoint a few who could actually be on Los Angeles’ radar.

Now not all of these guys are home run prospects. They all, however, bring something special to the floor, whether it’s impressive shooting, outstanding defense or immense leadership. As the Lakers continue to build a potential playoff roster, they’ll need all of these things to stabilize their bench unit.

That’s why their 2018 first round pick (via the Cleveland Cavaliers) is so important. Especially with the success the Lakers’ scouting staff has had at the end of the first round in recent years, this could turn out to be an extremely valuable selection.

Anyway — enough with the idle chatter. Let’s jump right into the guard prospects I believe the Lakers should have their eyes on with the No. 25 pick. It’s no guarantee they’ll all be available when it’s time for Magic to make his pick, but the chances aren’t slim either.
