Kyrie Irving has requested a trade and as one of the game’s best scorers, could fill a Gordon Hayward-sized hole in the Utah Jazz offense.

In Pat Riley‘s book “Showtime,” the Hall of Fame head coach made reference to “the disease of more.” He identified players’ desire to demand for more playing time and recognition, saying “success is often the first step toward disaster.”

Disaster has struck the Cleveland Cavaliers with the news Kyrie Irving has requested a trade, per ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst.

His desire for a bigger role has him seeking pastures that aren’t in the shadow of LeBron James. He wants to be the sole focus of an offense and play the point guard position in its purest form, not as a hand off from one of the game’s greats.

It’s understandable if not peculiar.

As an All-Star and an elite scorer, Irving’s potential availability will ensure the Cavaliers are inundated with trade calls in the coming days. With the news made public, teams will be seeing if they can get the 2015-16 NBA champion point guard for less than his market value.

The Utah Jazz have been linked to Irving once already this summer, when Mitch Lawrence of Sporting News broached the subject of a deal also involving the Indiana Pacers.

Those rumors were quickly debunked, but it did start the conversation — a conversation that has been reignited with the latest developments.
