The race for the NBA MVP award is as fierce as it’s ever been. The superstars won’t stop making history, but who holds the slight edge?

The 2016-17 NBA regular season has been one of the most influential campaigns in Association history. Players are rewriting the expectations of players at their respective positions with dominant showings that won’t soon be forgotten.

In the midst of this historic season, the most difficult question to answer is the most obvious question to ask: who should win MVP?

There are four legitimate MVP candidates and eight players who deserve placement in the Top 5 for the 2016-17 campaign. That list would expand even further if one were to include injured stars, including Kevin Durant and Kyle Lowry.

Due to the nature of their respective injuries, however, Durant and Lowry have been excluded from the in-season Player Power Rankings.

Those who have been included are those who have earned their reputations as the league’s greatest players. Some are better than others, but every one of the 20 players on this list have become stars in their own unique way.

The question is: who are the Top 20 players in the NBA and which player is the current frontrunner for the 2016-17 MVP award?
