The Los Angeles Lakers nearly landed All-Star point guard Chris Paul after the NBA lockout ended in December 2011, but the deal was voided by the league.

The Lakers’ loss was their roommates’ gain. Paul was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers with two second-round picks in 2015, with the New Orleans Hornets receiving Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu and a first-round pick in 2012.

The Clippers have made the playoffs every year since Paul’s arrival.

He is a five-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA selection and five-time All-Defensive choice since coming to L.A. and was the MVP of the 2013 All-Star Game.

He was third in the MVP voting in 2011-12 and fourth in 2012-13 and led the NBA in steals three times (2011-12 through 2013-14) and in assists twice (2013-14 and 2014-15).

He was second in assists in 2012-13, third in 2011-12 and fifth in steals and free-throw shooting in 2014-15.

In 2015-16, Paul was third in the league in steals and fourth in both assists and free-throw shooting.

In five seasons in Los Angeles, Paul is averaging 18.9 points, 9.9 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals in 34.4 minutes per game, shooting .475/.370/.880.

Paul was the fourth overall pick out of Wake Forest by the Hornets in the 2005 NBA Draft and was the 2005-06 Rookie of the Year.

He was also a four-time All-Star, three-time All-NBA choice and three-time All-Defensive selection with New Orleans.

Signed with the Clippers through 2016-17, with a player option for 2017-18, Paul is 11th in NBA history with 7,688 assists, 17th with 1,793 steals, 31st with a free-throw percentage of .864, 46th with an average of 35.9 minutes per game, third with an average of 9.9 assists per game and 5th with an average of 2.3 steals per game.
