The Dallas Mavericks–along with every other team in the NBA–always take a hard look at overseas talent, summer league stars and undrafted free agents in their quest to put together a solid lineup for the upcoming season.

The result is a lot of minimum deals being given to players who have yet to prove themselves at the highest stage.

While it’s rare that a non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed player ends up being a star in the league, some turn out to be helpful role players and some provide skills that the team didn’t necessarily have before.

One of the most recent instances was Hassan Whiteside‘s non-guaranteed deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, which led to a partially guaranteed deal with the Miami Heat which ultimately led to a  max deal.

For this article, I will be excluding Quincy Acy as he is a lock to stay in the NBA.
