As the San Antonio Spurs look ahead to free agency, here are some unorthodox choices they should consider.

The 2016 NBA Draft is over, and the San Antonio Spurs once again did Spurs things.

New Spurs DeJounte Murray and undrafted pick Ryan Arcidiacono will be arriving in the Alamo City shortly. Welcome.

Now it’s time for the Spurs to turn their attention to the free agent class of 2016, which includes those named Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Nicolas Batum (Charlotte Hornets) and Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks).

As we all know, the Spurs have a certain reputation and image. They tend to choose players, via draft or trade, that fit the Spurs Way. This usually means that a player has a team-first mentality; is coachable; knows how to check his ego at the door; is not a fan of publicity; and can laugh at himself, among other things.

This lends to the unfair perception that the Spurs are boring, simply because they don’t make the highlight reels on a regular basis with gravity-defying dunks or overly physical plays — unless it’s for the wrong reasons.

With that in mind, I am going to list some unrestricted free agents (UFAs) that, while not quite what the Spurs would normally go for, might actually help them going forward. I am also operating under the assumption that the elder Spurs players (all of whom are UFAs) are opting out of their contracts and/or retiring; of course, should they decide to re-up, that changes the free agency landscape.

I am also not mentioning anyone who played for the Charlotte Hornets this past season, because I enjoyed watching them play and I want their current iteration to stay together as much as possible.

These are just my personal opinions, so govern yourselves accordingly.
