Chicago Bulls: No. 14 In Lottery, What Next?
Now that the Chicago Bulls know their place in the 2016 NBA Draft, it is time for them to plan out their pick.
Represented by none other than Jimmy Butler, the Chicago Bulls took part in the 2016 NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night. Having had only a 0.5 percent chance at the first pick, and a 1.8 percent chance overall at a top three pick, the organization ended up with the expected No. 14 pick.
Butler, who has not spoken to the media since the front office made some less-than-warm remarks about him at their end of season press conference, had only a few words to say about the lottery experience:
"“It was cool to represent this organization.”"
However, he did take a moment to address Gar Forman alluding to the fact that Butler may be traded.
"“I didn’t do my job, so I guess everything is on the table. If I help us win games and get us in the playoffs and put us in a position to win a championship, he wouldn’t say it. So I’m not mad at (Forman). He’s doing his job.Maybe I did talk too much. I’m always learning. I always want to know how to get better. I read. I talk to people. As long as I’m willing to learn and take that criticism, I’ll be all right.”"
Regardless of what happens with Butler, the Bulls will certainly need to make some type of moves moving forward, in order to be successful. And those changes may very well begin with the 2016 NBA Draft.
After all, both Chicago stars Butler and Derrick Rose took the organization in a different direction once they were acquired.
Butler, who was the team’s No. 30 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, developed into a bigger talent than probably even management could have imagined. He definitely came in at the right time too, given Rose’s on-going struggle with injuries.

Rose, of course, was selected No. 1 in 2008, putting the Bulls back on the map; in 2010-11 and 2011-12, they had the best record in the East.
So, what will the franchise focus on for this year’s draft?
Well, Chicago could use a point guard.
Between Rose’s contract coming to an end, Aaron Brooks not being expected to return and E’Twaun Moore being an unrestricted free agent, the Bulls may as well take advantage of a guard-heavy incoming class.
According to multiple sources, Chicago will probably be left to choose from the likes of Wade Baldwin and Demetrius Jackson.
Baldwin, a sophomore out of Vanderbilt, is a 6-foot-4 point-guard with a 6-foot-10 wingspan. Last year, he averaged 14.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals a game. The young buck shot 40.2 percent from three on the season, 42 percent off of the catch.
He does seem less comfortable getting in the paint however, which could potentially make him a bit of a one-trick pony. But something to remember with all draft picks is that their college game may develop into more and/or something vastly different once they hit the professional level.
Jackson comes out of Notre Dame at 6-feet. The junior may be on the shorter side, but his quick feet and jump shot seem to make up for it. He averaged 15.8 points, 3.5 rebounds 4.7 assists and 1.2 steals a game last season, and shoots best off of the catch. But over time, his three-point shooting has decreased, falling from 43 percent to 33 percent in the last year.
More hoops habit: Chicago Bulls: Will Derrick Rose Be Traded?
There is no guarantee that either of these guys will still be available come pick No. 14, or that the Bulls will even be interested in them. In fact, Chicago may very well not like any point guards left on the board, and will opt to deepen their roster in other ways instead. But with the lottery behind them, at least they can now start planning.
