1 Deal Each Team Could Make Before Trade Deadline

20. New York Knicks
Breaking up a portion of the Knicks’ upstart rotation would be an ill-advised attempt to shake up the roster. Currently 14-16, they’re ascending with one of the most scintillating two-way rookies in Kristaps Porzingis and made two underrated signings in SG Arron Afflalo and C Robin Lopez in the offseason.
Phil Jackson is winning most of his decisions, let’s not get over-aggressive and make rash moves.
Cleanthony Early was a highly regarded rookie coming out of Wichita State in 2014 and Jackson supposedly got a steal with the No. 35 pick. However, Early hasn’t been able to display his talents on a roster highlighted by Carmelo Anthony. With the offseason signing of Derrick Williams, Early’s been stuck either on the deep end of the bench or playing in the D-League for Westchester.
In a similar situation, undrafted rookie Cliff Alexander hasn’t seen the floor for a rebuilding Portland unit. With hustle and ability to grab boards, Alexander’s talents would be more effectively utilized on a jump shooting team like the Knicks.
It isn’t a blockbuster deal, but both teams could make a sound change by dealing a long-term option to a team with a better fit for their talents.
