With the new NBA season now merely days away, it’s time to get excited about what this season could hold for the Orlando Magic. While expectations remain pretty modest, a new head coach in Scott Skiles and more young talent mean this is a team that could make a bit of noise in the less competitive Eastern Conference. With that in mind let’s take a more in-depth look at the starting five the team will likely lead with on opening night.

Although there are unlikely to be any shocks with who starts when the games count for something, it is still worth exploring what kind of seasons these players are capable of having. We begin with point guard Elfrid Payton, a floor general who figures to be in the long-term plans for this team. A current hamstring issue may cause him to miss opening night if it drags on longer than expected, but there’s no doubt this will be his team to run when he’s fully fit.
