Without a good head coach, it’s a strenuous task to win a championship in any sport. Sometimes the players drive a team’s chances to take home a title, but the architect remains in the wise elder.

Both Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, two of the best to ever play the game, had Phil Jackson guiding them to multiple championships. Gregg Popovich has built a dynasty in San Antonio with help from arguably the best PF of all-time in Tim Duncan.

More from NBA

While Popovich sports another dominant rotation with the addition of LaMarcus Aldridge, he has competition in a youthful revolution of coaching. Steve Kerr, in his first year as a head coach, made history by winning the NBA Finals with Golden State.

Billy Donovan now is the head of the Oklahoma City Thunder as an upstart with a loaded lineup, while Brad Stevens has drastically out-coached expectations in Boston. The league has a mix of veteran and relatively new coaches who can progress their respective teams with their knowledge.

Here are all NBA head coaches ranked based on past, recent history and accomplishments.
