The Chicago Bulls have had a predictable offseason for the most part. For starters, if the team did not make a serious postseason run during the 2014-15 campaign, a change was coming. And once the team was eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs, former coach Tom Thibodeau was fired and replaced by Fred Hoiberg less than a week later.

Jimmy Butler, who had his best season in a Bulls uniform, was given a five-year extension to the tune of $95 million. After all, you have to do what whatever is necessary to retain one of the best two-way guards in the league, right?

Furthermore, as expected, Mike Dunleavy, Kirk Hinrich and Aaron Brooks were all re-signed, which ensures that Mr. Hoiberg will inherit the same roster from a year ago, with the exception of rookie forward Bobby Portis and Jordan Crawford, who was recently signed to a non-guaranteed deal.

Although the Bulls did not have any major shakeups from a personnel standpoint, fans will see a slightly different look to the court when they cheer on the home team this season. In fact, according to the Bulls.com website, here are the changes that have been made:

  • The iconic bull head logo at center court has increased in size by 75 percent and the image of a basketball that was previously behind the logo has been removed.
  • The “CHICAGO BULLS” text on the endlines has been changed to the font used in the official Bulls logo to make the court design more consistent with the Bulls brand, and the same font has been applied to the “Bulls.com” and the “@ChicagoBulls” text on the north apron of the court.
  • The lines on the court have been changed from red and white to all black to emphasize the bold colors of the Bulls brand. And the four stars from the City of Chicago flag have been added to the south apron of the court to highlight the team’s civic pride and incorporate the “Chicago Basketball” branding campaign.

The good news is that  the local fan base will not have to wait long to see the new design, as the Bulls will play their first preseason game on Oct. 6 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

And while Zach Harper of CBSSports.com describes the new look as a cleaner and bolder version of the court they used to play on, what fans are really hoping for is to see their team competing for the ultimate prize in June.
