Minnesota Timberwolves: Grading The Offseason
A little over a year ago, the Minnesota Timberwolves were stuck in the middle. They had a bonafide superstar in Kevin Love, but frequent injury setbacks and draft busts prevented the Wolves from ever putting a competent team around him. With Love’s patience waning, Flip Saunders finally made the executive decision to start over by shipping Love away.

In the process, they nabbed a former No. 1 pick, the current No. 1 pick (at the time) and gave themselves a good shot at the No. 1 pick in 2015. Even though Anthony Bennett has yet to find his stride, Andrew Wiggins and favorable odds at the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft were a pretty acceptable byproduct of moving on from Love.
With the cornerstones of this franchise still so young, it’ll be awhile before the Wolves begin their ascent up the Western Conference ladder. So it’s no surprise Minnesota sat on the sidelines for most of free agency, basically mailing in the summer with some housekeeping items.
However, it’d definitely be a mistake to say the offseason was a disappointment for the Timberwolves, especially when you include their good fortunes in the draft. Here’s a look at what Minnesota accomplished this summer with comprehensive offseason grades.
