Markieff Morris Wants Out Of Phoenix, No Surprise Without His Twin
Less than one year ago, the Phoenix Suns signed both Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris to a unique four-year contract extension worth a total of $52 million between the two of them. From ESPN’s Marc Stein, last September Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby said:
"“There is an extraordinary bond between these twin brothers; they make each other better players and better men. We take pride in their growth and look forward to their bright futures. …I did something I’ve never done before. Once we agreed on the amount of money ($52 million over four years), I gave them the first crack at how to divide it up.”"
Last month, Phoenix traded Marcus Morris to the Detroit Pistons in an effort to clear cap room as the franchise pursued free agent LaMarcus Aldridge. Marcus was not pleased. Via the Associated Press, he said:
"“Everybody knew how bad I wanted to play with my brother. Phoenix knew. For them to trade me without consent or telling or anything like that was kind of like a, I would say slap in the face, because of the contract I took from those guys and the money I took from them. That was kind of a slap in the face.”"
Just last week, Marcus got into a bit of a social media tiff with Phoenix radio host John Gambadoro. In addition to saying he would block Suns fans on Twitter, Marcus also stated his brother’s time in Phoenix would soon be over as well.
On Thursday, Gambadoro’s show sent out this tweet:
Roughly two hours later, Markieff Morris tweeted this:
FOE stands for “family over everything,” a hashtag commonly used by both twins.
Markieff still has four years remaining on his contract with the Suns, so he really doesn’t have much choice in the matter. But considering the headache this is becoming (and the fact that both twins are facing aggravated assault charges in Arizona), it seems quite likely Phoenix will look to shed its remaining Morris malcontent.
