Utah Jazz: Grading The Offseason

Heading into the offseason, the Utah Jazz didn’t have much to accomplish. After trading away Enes Kanter, Quin Snyder’s squad emerged as the NBA’s top defense, smothering opponents to the tune of 94.8 points per 100 possessions — a full 4.6 points better than the next best team. With an identity based in youth and defense, the Jazz were never expected to be players in this summer’s free agency.

However, that’s not to say the Jazz accomplished nothing in the offseason after showing signs of becoming a breakout team for 2015-16. Unfortunately, the biggest takeaway from the summer will now be Dante Exum‘s tragic ACL tear, but Utah’s actual offseason moves are still worth examining.

The Jazz won’t be contending for anything other than a playoff spot next season, and that goal may be harder than anticipated depending on how the New Orleans Pelicans play under Alvin Gentry and how good the Phoenix Suns wind up being.

But Utah will be in the mix for the postseason barring injury problems, so here’s a look at what they did this summer to help the cause with comprehensive offseason grades.
