With most of the team’s young core locked in and injuries playing a significant part in their second round playoff exit, the Washington Wizards had two main tasks heading into the summer: getting everyone healthy, and keeping Paul Pierce in the nation’s capital.

They failed on one of the two.

With The Truth heading to his hometown of Los Angeles to reunite with Doc Rivers, the injection of veteran experience, leadership and clutch shot-making the Wizards enjoyed last season is gone.

John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter Jr. all learned from one of the NBA’s all-time winners, enjoying his tutelage for a full season. The Wizards return four of five starters from last year and Porter seems poised to take over the starting spot and finally start living up to his billing as a former top-five pick.
