New York Knicks: Grading The Offseason

Following the worst season in franchise history, the New York Knicks were looking for a home run in free agency. For an organization that has historically failed with (or completely avoided) rebuilding efforts through the NBA Draft, names like LaMarcus Aldridge, Marc Gasol and Greg Monroe represented the Knicks’ best opportunity to regroup.

Armed with cap space and the allure of playing in the Big Apple, Phil Jackson still struck out on every major free agent. Like the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knicks learned the hard way that cap space, the attraction of playing for a prestigious organization in a major market, and little substance behind it is not as enticing for star players anymore.

Still, the offseason was not a complete disaster for the Knicks, who really had nowhere to go but up. The biggest offseason addition heading into the 2015-16 season will still be the return of a healthy Carmelo Anthony, but New York did a decent job surrounding him with improved talent both for the short-term and the long-term.

The Knicks are still looking for that trophy fish for the mantlepiece above the fireplace, but the medium-sized catches they hauled in will be decent complementary pieces until that day comes.
