It wasn’t long ago that people were talking about the center position becoming extinct, but there are plenty of young players to be excited about for fantasy basketball owners. This piece will guide you through the top five centers on my draft board heading into the summer.

These rankings don’t necessarily indicate where I think players will be picked, but rather how I value these centers on my own draft board.

Here are a few top centers that didn’t make my top-five, but could easily finish there in 2015-16 (in no particular order):

  • Dwight Howard, Houston Rockets – He could end up being the No. 1 center in fantasy basketball, or he could be the Dwyane Wade of the position. Neither would surprise me.
  • Hassan Whiteside, Miami Heat – He had a phenomenal, surprising season. A top-five finish isn’t out of the question for him, but there are still questions here.
  • Nikola Vucevic, Orlando Magic – You have to love his scoring/rebounding combo, but he’s not a dominant blocks or steals guy for his position.
  • Al Horford, Atlanta Hawks – He does a little bit of everything, but the entire package isn’t top-five. He’s a nice value later in drafts.
  • Brook Lopez, Brooklyn Nets – Health is the biggest key for him. His post-All-Star stretch showed us he can challenge for a top-five spot if healthy (19.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks).
