Phoenix Suns: Morris Twins Charged With Assault
The Phoenix Suns forwards Markieff and Marcus Morris have been charged with assault
As reported by Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com, Marcus and Markieff Morris have officially been charged with felony aggravated assault, stemming from a rec center brawl back on January 24.
The twins will have their day in court on May 7, alongside three other men who have been charged — Gerald Bowman, Julius Kane and Christopher Melendez.
It all comes back to some allegedly inappropriate texts sent to the Morris’ mother by the victim, Erik Hood.
This is yet another black eye for an organization that has had to deal with a lot this season. The Phoenix Suns suspended forward P.J. Tucker at the beginning of the 2014-15 season for a DUI charge. If the Morris Twins are found guilty, there’s a very real possibility that they’ll miss time at the start of the 2015-16 season.
Both Markieff and Marcus have had their character brought into question throughout the season, both fairly (their lack of composure leading to 24 combined technical fouls) and unfairly (being blasted for speaking their mind about fair weather fans in Phoenix).
I had written about the twins back in January — before the brawl — about how it was time to embrace them for who they are. They’re volatile, aggressive and loyal to no end. If those things can be harnessed and used for good, those are good qualities to have. When they spill over into brawls in front of at least 100 people (including kids), well, that’s a disaster.
This situation certainly won’t help the public view of the brothers any and isn’t going away any time soon. The brothers had their contracts extended before last season and barring a trade will be in the desert through the 2018-19 season. The Suns have not issued an official statement as of the posting of this piece.
