What formula makes up a great college basketball team? Is it senior leadership and experience, or a group of talented underclassmen who are just purely better than their opponents?

That’s the beauty of college basketball. For decades we’ve seen hundreds of different teams have successful seasons with different combinations winning the national title. Sometimes it’s a decent team that just gets hot at the right time like North Carolina State in 1983 or incredible talent like Bill Russell leading his San Francisco teams to titles.

We’ll take a look at the 30 greatest teams of all time. There’s obviously room for argument, so let me know where I went wrong in the comment section or on Twitter (@uklefty22).

There are plenty of factors I’m taking into consideration into this list. Obviously winning the national title goes a long way as does making the Final Four as March Madness can be fluky. Other factors was the eye test, simply who looks the part – as discussed with those older than me who can fully compare those old UCLA teams to those of today. Lastly, what type of talent was on the team.

Note: In the interest of making the list less repetitious, teams that had very similar lineups in more than one season have been consolidated into a single entry. For example, the Florida Gators, who won the 2006 and 2007 national titles with the same starting five, appear once for both seasons.
