Bucks get Carter-Williams, send Knight to Phoenix

The Philadelphia 76ers, less than two years after trading All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans, have now traded another point guard away, this time reigning Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams.

Carter-Williams is heading to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a three-team deal that also involved the Phoenix Suns, per USA Today.

As part of the deal, point guard Brandon Knight is going from the surprising Bucks to the Suns, with Phoenix sending big man Miles Plumlee and guard Tyler Ennis to Milwaukee.

Philadelphia, as is their fashion, is getting the Los Angeles Lakers first-round pick from the Suns. That pick is top-five protected this year, top-three protected in 2016 and 2017 and unprotected in 2018.

Carter-Williams is averaging 15 points, 7.4 assists, 6.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 33.9 minutes a game this season, just is shooting only 38 percent overall and 25.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Knight, meanwhile, was considered to be a borderline all-star for the resurgent Bucks, averaging 17.8 points, 5.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 32.5 minutes per game. He is shooting .435/.409/.881.

Plumlee’s playing time had Plum-meted with the emergence of big man Alex Len this season. He is averaging 4.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and a block in 18.6 minutes a game on 54.9 percent shooting. A starter for the Suns last season, he lost the job to Len in December. He had started Phoenix’s last three games before the break.

Ennis, the 18th overall pick last June out of Syracuse, played in only eight games for the Suns, scoring 22 points and dishing 14 assists. He averaged 18.4 points, 5.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals in nine games with the D-League’s Bakersfield Jam.
