Denver deals McGee, first-rounder to Philadelphia
Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie was at it again, acquiring a first-round pick from the Denver Nuggets, via the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Nuggets will also move center JaVale McGee to the 76ers in the deal, but speculation is that the Sixers will attempt to buy out the remaining $12 million owed to the seventh-year big man for 2015-16.
McGee was averaging 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 11.5 minutes a game for the Nuggets, having played in only 17 games as he was still recovering from a leg fracture that sidelined him for all but five games last season.
The pick is top-18 protected this year and top-15 protected in both 2016 and 2017, per Ken Berger of CBSSports.com.
The Nuggets, meanwhile, are getting back a trade exception and the rights to one of Philadelphia’s players the Sixers have stashed in Europe, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.
