Kevin Durant made it clear that he would love to play alongside of Kobe Bryant if the opportunity presented itself.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant was asked about playing alongside of Kobe Bryant, and he made it clear that he would love to play alongside Bryant if the opportunity presented itself. ESPN columnist Henry Abbott talked earlier this year about Bryant being the death of the Los Angeles Lakers’ franchise, and that he is the reason that no big names end up signing in Los Angeles.

Durant doesn’t agree with that thought process, and in fact he thinks that it is a crazy notion to be putting out there. He made some comments to the media about the situation, and they are certainly worth reading.

"“Excuse my language, but that’s (expletive). I want to play with a winner every single night, especially somebody who wants to win that bad, who works that hard, who demands a lot, who raises up your level. I’d want to play with a guy like that every day. … (His style) may make people uncomfortable, how he acts and just how he approaches the game, but I love that type of stuff. I think (the accusation) is BS.”"

Obviously hearing these comments from one of the most dominant players in the game squashes the terrible article that Abbott wrote.

The only reason that people wouldn’t want to play alongside of Bryant is if they don’t want to be driven to get better and win. Bryant is a very supportive teammate, but he doesn’t have time for any player that doesn’t want to improve or leave everything they have on the court. He has taken a lot of shots throughout his career and has a ball-hog tag at times, but he also makes his teammates better around him more often than he is given credit for.

It would be something to see Durant team up with Bryant to help get him one more championship. There is a chance that Durant could play alongside of Bryant for a year or two if he decided to sign with the Lakers in free agency and could convince Bryant to stick around for another year or two.

More from Hoops Habit

While it would be something that any NBA fan would enjoy watching, the chances of it happening are slim to none. Bryant would welcome a player like Durant to play alongside of him, but it just hasn’t happened The Lakers tried to sign Carmelo Anthony this past offseason, but he ended up re-signing with Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks.

So what do these comments teach us that we didn’t already know? Quite frankly, it’s now becoming obvious that other stars would be more than interested in playing alongside of Bryant. He is a competitor and that is something that most dominant players love about him.

Bryant may have a tendency to take too many shots, but he is also one of the most decorated NBA players in the history of the game. He has drawn comparisons to Michael Jordan, and just passed him on the All-Time scoring list. Not many players can ignore those facts, and just like Durant would be excited to get the chance to play alongside him while they still can.
