  • Needless to say that 72-hour period from the time Parsons signed Dallas’ offer sheet was the most hectic weekend of his life. But as a part of Team USA and that drama now behind him, Parsons is here in Las Vegas for the next few days hoping to make the final 12-man roster.

I had the chance to have a quick one-on-one chat with the man himself about how it feels to represent his country, his new life in Dallas and if there’s still any beef with former Houston Rockets teammate James Harden, who’s also trying out for Team USA.

Also, I now know why the ladies love him so much. It’s the eyes, man.

HoopsHabit: How does it feel to be here in Vegas, and have the chance to represent your country?

Chandler Parsons: It’s a huge honor. It’s the biggest honor you can probably have as a basketball player. It’s very flattering and humbling just to be able to come out here and play for these coaches, play with these guys and compete for your country. It’s very exciting, and I’m very happy to be here and I’m just looking to compete all week and do whatever I can do make this team.

HH: Talk about that entire weekend. You signed the offer sheet, had no clue where you were going for three days, you find out you’re heading to Dallas and then a few hours later you were told that you were going to try out for the team. What was that roller coaster like?

CP: Yeah, it was a crazy day (laughs). One of the best days of my life. Like I’ve said, I got a lot  of love and respect for Houston. I loved my teammates and my coaches there. I was definitely sad about leaving there, but I’m so excited about the opportunity that I have with Dallas and that next step, that bigger role. Mark Cuban is the best owner in sports, Rick Carlisle‘s one of the best coaches. Just to be able to play with Dirk [Nowitzki] as his career winds down here, just to be able to learn from all of those veteran guys, it’s exciting. Being here is even bigger.

HH: Obviously some things were said from the Rockets in regards to them not matching the offer sheet, and now you and James Harden are back on the same squad. Have you guys talked at all since getting here or has the animosity been overplayed? (Note: The moment I asked that question, Harden sat down a couple of seats away from Chandler.)

CP: James, we’re talking, right? We’re cool? (laughs)

James Harden: Yeah, we’re good. What was the question?

HH: Just about the reports of what was said about Chandler.

JH: Oh yeah, nothing’s wrong there. We’re good.

CP: All of that got blown out of proportion. No matter what team I’m on, he’s still gonna be my friend. Same thing goes for Dwight Howard, same thing goes for all the coaches. I wish them nothing but the best of luck. I obviously wasn’t there for all of that, but knowing those guys, I know they didn’t mean anything by that.

HH: How do you like that Run DMC nickname that was given to you, Dirk and Monta?

CP: Oh, that was awesome (laughs). I like it. I think it’s going to be great playing with them.

HH: How do you see this season going down with you three leading the Mavs?

CP: I’m just really excited, man. Monta can score the basketball and Dirk’s one of the best ever to do it. Tyson Chandler is a center that I definitely think I can excel with, with the way I play. Just the core we have, it’s exciting. I think we have a chance to win right away. The coach we have and the system plays perfect to our personnel, I’m excited, man. I can’t wait to get out there and I think we have a chance to be really good.
