One of the areas where the Hawks have long craved a dominant presence is in terms of rebounding. This season Atlanta ranked 28th in the NBA in that category, but that couldn’t be placed on Ayon’s shoulders.

When Ayon was healthy, he was dominant in the paint, aggressively grabbing rebounds at both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. In only 16.5 minutes of play per game, Ayon averaged 4.8 rebounds, with 1.6 of them coming from the offensive glass.

If his stats are adjusted per 36 minutes, we get an illustration of just how strong a rebounder Ayon actually is. Per 36, Ayon grabbed 10.5 rebounds, a number that would place him in pretty elite company in the NBA.
