Tyreke Evans: ‘It’s More Steady In New Orleans’

The New Orleans Pelicans had a very beneficial offseason, as they were able to add point guards Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans to their already exciting roster. The Pelicans signed Evans to a four-year, $44 million contract.

For his career, Evans averaged 17.5 points, 4.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds and last season he averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds. The 6’6″, 220-pound point guard has always been an important piece to the Sacramento Kings franchise, but he will now be an important piece for New Orleans, as he has now found a better place, a place in which he feels much more comfortable.

Evans said:

"“This is a different situation for me. It’s better. Just knowing that we’ve got a group that’s willing to be with each other for a long time, I’m looking forward to playing with them. It’s more steady in New Orleans. Sacramento, they just got things right out there, so that’s good for them. When I was there it was a question about whether we were going to move or stay. No one really knew what was going on. It’s not going to happen overnight, but I definitely think this year we have the talent and the team to go to the playoffs. This is a new beginning for me. I’ve been a winner all my life. When I came to Sacramento, it was kind of down for me. I’m definitely looking forward to winning games here.” (Quotes via NBA.com)"

Evans’ words are spot on. Back in Sacramento, he just did not have the correct pieces around him to help himself grow. He was surrounded by a team with an uncertain road ahead, as well as too much drama.  With the Pelicans, his future is bright and can hit the restart button by beginning a new journey. In New Orleans, Tyreke has players alongside him that will make him succeed. Not only that, but he also does not have the same amount of pressure that he was dealt with when he was in a Kings uniform; he was expected to carry the heavy load. Now in New Orleans, it seems to look like he will be coming off the bench and the workload will minimize.

Evans is excited, and he definitely should be. With his potential and the players around him, his future is bright.
