NBA Stat Central #4: You’re The Worst!

facebooktwitterreddit

Welcome to NBA Stat Central, where we take a deeper look into NBA statistics for the 2012-13 season and many before! Each Friday we go with a different theme, but we love the best and worst themes the most!

This week, our theme is entitled “You’re the worst!” We’re going to address some of the worst individual performances in NBA history, both on a per-game basis and per-season.

Most Minutes Played In A Season Without Scoring

Will Conroy, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers, 2006-07, 52 minutes played without one point

Conroy has had quite the strange career. He played three games in 2006-07 for the Memphis Grizzlies, then four games for the Los Angeles Clippers. He was out of the league until 2009-10, when he played five games for the Houston Rockets. Then, he was out of the game until 2012-13, where he’s currently on the Minnesota Timberwolves roster. He’s played a combined 101 minutes and has never made a three-pointer or a free-throw (0-5 and 0-6).

Most FG Attempts Without Making One In 4th Quarter or OT, 2:00 or Less Left, Within 5 Points (2012-13 Season)

George Hill, Indiana Pacers, Five

What makes this even more interesting, is in a tie for second, we have Paul George and David West both missing four. No wonder the Pacers are struggling so much.

The 2011-12 leader? Surprisingly, Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He shot missed all 21 of his shots in those situations.

Even more amazing? The 2010-11 season saw teammates take the top two spots. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant went a combined 0-for-87 in those situations.

Most Missed Dunks In 2011-12 Season

Blake Griffin, Los Angeles Clippers, 22

Is it possible to be the best and the worst at something? If so, Griffin has it locked up. His 22 missed dunks are more than double what anyone else has accomplished. The second place finisher was Tyson Chandler and Roy Hibbert, tied with just nine.

Most FG Attempts Without A Make In a Win

Tim Hardaway, Golden State Warriors, 1990-91, 17

So Tim, maybe at some point you could give us a hand and actually make a shot? Somehow, the Warriors actually won this game in which Hardaway went 0-17.

Hardaway also turned the ball over four times and had five fouls. In the interest of fairness, he did dish out 13 assists. With that kind of shooting, he should have passed more often.

Most Minutes Played In Game With No Shots, Rebounds, Assists, Steals or Blocks

John Paxson, Chicago Bulls, 1985-86, 16

16 minutes on the court, and Paxson took no shots. Sure, that can happen. He also had no rebounds and was the only player of the 10 that played to accomplish that. He had 0 assists, and only one other player did that. No steals, no blocks and no turnovers.

There might be a slight excuse for this one. He got froze out. Quintin Dailey played 21 minutes off the bench and managed to take 19 field goals and 18 free-throws. 38 points in 21 minutes means not a whole lot of time for anyone else to shoot.
