NBA Draft Blog Interview with Kervin Bristol
By Ed Isaacson
When people think of college basketball, not many people think of the Fordham Rams from the Atlantic 10. However, under Coach Tom Pecora, the amount of talent coming to the Bronx has increased and the improvement on the court is evident. One of the high points from this year’s team was the play of forward Kervin Bristol (6’10, 225 – 5.4 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.4 bpg.) Bristol, a force on the defensive end, came to Fordham after 2 years at Broward Community College where he was one of the best junior college players in the country. I recently had a chance to talk with Kervin about his experience at Fordham and his preparation to work out for NBA teams before the draft:
Kervin on how he developed as a player during his time at Fordham:
“The coaching staff at Fordham had a lot of confidence in me and this allowed me to be more comfortable on the court. I was able to focus on becoming a better player, and the staff spent a lot of time working with me on understanding the game and what I needed to do to get better.”
Kervin on the strengths to his game:
“It would be my defensive capabilities, rebounding and blocking shots. I do have offensive skills, and many people underestimate me on that end.”
Kervin on what parts of his game he wants to improve:
“I want to get better with my back-to-the-basket game – being able to be a real threat in the low post. Also, I keep working on my mid-range shot”
Kervin on what he sees his potential NBA role to be:
“Definitely playing the 5, being a defensive presence and helping around the basket. I can bring energy to the team, block shots, rebound the ball. ”
Kervin on preparing for Draft workouts:
“I am spending a lot of time working on my face-up game and working in the low post. The workouts are helping me to become more explosive, getting my body and my hands stronger.”
Kervin on what he wants teams and fans to know about him:
“I’m a competitor, and I will work as hard as it takes to get on the court and contribute to the team.”
I want to thank Kervin for his time and I wish him the best of luck as he looks to fulfill his dream of getting to the NBA. Thank you also to his agent, BJ Bass of RBA Sports for setting up this interview.
