2000’s Decade

  • 2000-2001 = (PHI) Dikembe Mutombo – 10 PPG
  • 2001-2002 = (PHI) Dikembe Mutombo – 11.5 PPG
  • 2002-2003 = (DET) Ben Wallace – 6.9 PPG
  • 2003-2004 = (DET) Ben Wallace – 9.5 PPG
  • 2004-2005 = (DET) Ben Wallace – 9.7 PPG
  • 2005-2006 = (DET) Ben Wallace – 7.3 PPG
  • 2006-2007 = (DET) Chauncey Billups – 17.0 PPG
  • 2007-2008 = (NJN/DAL) Jason Kidd – 10.8 PPG
  • 2008-2009 = (DEN/DET) Allen Iverson – 17.5 PPG
  • 2009-2010 = (DAL) Jason Kidd – 10.3 PPG

Mutombo continued his on-court dominance to be named an all-star in the first two years of the 2000s decade. Unfortunately, he would have had the lowest scoring average of all participants in both of those seasons as well.

And then we have two words:

Ben Wallace.

He was the only player on this entire list to lead the category in four consecutive seasons.

After Wallace’s fourth season of leading, his teammate Chauncey Billups would make it five consecutive seasons for a Detroit Pistons player. Billups’ average of 17 points per game in the 2006-2007 season was the highest of anyone on this list.

The lowest scorers for the next two seasons were Jason Kidd and Allen Iverson, who were the only players to do so while playing for multiple teams in the same season.

When Jason Kidd accomplished this in the 2009-2010 NBA season, he became the player with the longest span of years between the first and last time he did so (his first coming in 1997-98).

2010’s Decade

  • 2010-2011 = (HOU) Yao Ming – 10.2 PPG
  • 2011-2012 = (BOS) Rajon Rondo – 11.9 PPG
  • 2012-2013 = (NYK) Tyson Chandler – 10.4 PPG
  • 2013-2014 = (IND) Roy Hibbert – 10.8 PPG
  • 2014-2015 = (ATL) Kyle Korver – 12.1 PPG
  • 2015-2016 = (GSW) Draymond Green – 14.0 PPG
  • 2016-2017 = (GSW) Draymond Green – 10.2 PPG
  • 2017-2018 = (GSW) Draymond Green – 11.0 PPG
  • 2018-2019 = (DAL) Dirk Nowitzki – 7.3 PPG
  • 2019-2020 = (UTH) Rudy Gobert – 15.1 PPG

Who can forget the year that Yao Ming made the all-star team despite only playing five games in the season?

After Rajon Rondo had the lowest scoring average the next season, a center tandem of Tyson Chandler and Roy Hibbert would lead the next two years.

Despite Kyle Korver only amounting to 12.1 points per game, he had a historical efficiency year in the 2014-2015 season with his Atlanta Hawks as the best record in the East. That season, Korver had the highest true shooting percentage by a guard in league history.

Draymond Green would three-peat in his first three seasons of making the NBA All-Star team.

The player for the next year was Dirk Nowitzki after Adam Silver named him and Dwyane Wade as special additions to the 2019 NBA All-Star Game.

2020’s Decade

  • 2020-2021 = (UTH) Rudy Gobert/(PHI) Ben Simmons -> 14.3 PPG
  • 2021-2022 = (GSW) Draymond Green -> 7.5 PPG
  • 2022-2023 = (MEM) Jaren Jackson Jr. -> 16.7 PPG

Rudy Gobert would make it consecutive years of being the lowest-scoring all-star in the 2020-2021 season. Only the second time, he would be joined by Ben Simmons.

The next year, Draymond Green was once again the lowest scorer. Other than Dick McGuire, Green has the second most all-star appearances for a player that has always been the lowest scorer in the contest (tied with Ben Wallace).

And so far this season, Jaren Jackson Jr. is on pace to be the man of the hour. If he keeps his scoring average the same until the end of the year, he will still have the second most points per game of everyone on this list. It’s important to recognize that Jackson, along with most of the other players on this list, has shown the versatile amount of ways they can impact the game like an all-star should.
