NBA History: The lowest-scoring NBA All-Star from every season
1980’s Decade
- 1980-1981 = (PHI) Bobby Jones – 13.5 PPG
- 1981-1982 = (MIL) Bob Lanier – 13.5 PPG
- 1982-1983 = (PHI) Maurice Cheeks – 12.5 PPG
- 1983-1984 = (UTH) Rickey Green – 13.2 PPG
- 1984-1985 = (BOS) Dennis Johnson – 15.7 PPG
- 1985-1986 = (PHI) Maurice Cheeks – 15.4 PPG
- 1986-1987 = (DET) Bill Laimbeer – 15.4 PPG
- 1987-1988 = (DAL) James Donaldson – 7.0 PPG
- 1988-1989 = (UTH) Mark Eaton – 6.2 PPG
- 1989-1990 = (DET) Dennis Rodman – 8.8 PPG
Throughout the 1980s, a wider array of household names started leading this club.
Bobby Jones made his second appearance, as his first one was in 1978. The season Bob Lanier made this list was the only time he was named an NBA All-Star but failed to average more than 20 points per game in a season.
Maurice Cheeks, who made two appearances, Dennis Johnson, and Dennis Rodman all won the championship in a leading season (Cheeks won his in 1983). But an interesting note is that it was Mark Eaton in 1988-1989 who posted the lowest scoring average by any NBA All-Star in league history.
1990’s Decade
- 1990-1991 = (MIL) Alvin Robertson – 13.6 PPG
- 1991-1992 = (DET) Dennis Rodman – 9.8 PPG
- 1992-1993 = (UTH) John Stockton – 15.1 PPG
- 1993-1994 = (NYK) Charles Oakley – 11.8 PPG
- 1994-1995 = (DEN) Dikembe Mutombo – 11.5 PPG
- 1995-1996 = (DEN) Dikembe Mutombo – 11.0 PPG
- 1996-1997 = (ATL) Dikembe Mutombo – 13.3 PPG
- 1997-1998 = (PHX) Jason Kidd – 11.6 PPG
- 1998-1999 = No Allstar Game
- 1999-2000 = (IND) Dale Davis – 10.0 PPG
Alvin Robertson kicks off the first season of the 1990’s decade as the lowest-scoring all-star. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering he is also one of four players to ever drop a quadruple-double in a single game.
Rodman makes his second appearance the next year, followed by John Stockton and Charles Oakley. Then we move into a three-peat by Dikembe Mutombo. In both the first and last year of this stretch, Mutombo did receive the honor of Defensive Player of the Year.
