3 targets to fortify the Golden State Warriors’ second unit: Goran Dragić

Circling back to the point guard position, the best target on the market right now is Goran Dragić, and it appears he is on Golden State’s radar. After being bought out by the San Antonio Spurs, the guard reportedly has a handful of teams targeting him, and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Warriors are among them. Their rumored interest in the former NBA All-Star makes sense, as he could be a massive addition to this second unit.

Over his last two seasons with the Miami Heat, Dragić asserted himself as one of the best bench players in the league by averaging 14.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.

Of course, he would also help their bench shooting, having shot 36.9 percent from deep on 5.3 attempts in that timeframe. Numbers like that are precisely why so many teams are pursuing Dragić, as he could bolster any second unit looking for some added help.

If the Warriors are indeed looking for a reliable backup point guard to play in the minutes where Curry is off the floor, there is not a better answer out there than Dragić.

Simply put, whichever team signs Dragić will be getting a quality second unit floor general that will provide scoring, facilitating, and battle-tested experience. Every one of those attributes could help the Warriors in their quest to make another run at a championship this season, and they should be all-in on Dragić as he tests the buyout market. Once the postseason rolls around, he could be a big difference-maker.

Stay tuned to find out whether the Golden State Warriors are the team to ultimately bring in the former All-Star, bolstering their title chances in the process.
