Ranking the top 50 NBA players of the 2021-2022 season: 50-41
By Corey Rausch
Top 50 NBA players ranked: 50. Collin Sexton
Previous Rank: NA
For the Cleveland Cavaliers, the development of both Collin Sexton and Darius Garland last season was their only beacon of hope. While Garland made significant progress as a shooter and primary playmaker, Sexton is all about scoring.
Sexton averaged 24.2 points, 4.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. Even with his increased workload and statistical output he even managed to put together his most efficient season, posting a career-high 51.9 effective field goal percentage.
For much of the early season, Sexton was a statement maker. He scored 20 or more points in each of his first eight games before missing two weeks. He came back against the Brooklyn Nets and announced his presence with a line of 42 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block.
This season will be about taking the next step. Sexton and Garland are no longer the only promising younger players on the roster. Jarrett Allen was a major acquisition at the deadline and was extended during the offseason. Evan Mobley, the number three overall pick, is a transformational defensive force. Lauri Markkanen was signed during the free agency period, allowing the Cavs to take another swing on talent. While there may not be many wins coming their way this season, Sexton and the Cavs’ overall talent level is beginning to crest.
