Golden State Warriors: 5 offseason roster moves they need to make
Golden State Warriors offseason roster move No. 5: Use their draft capital well
For the second season in a row, the Warriors are in a really good position for the NBA draft. Last season they had the second pick, this season they have the seventh and the fourteenth picks in a draft that has a very deep pool of talent.
The reason that they have the two picks is that they are still benefitting from the trade that netted them Wiggins. They gave up D’Angelo Russell, Omari Spellman, and Jacob Evans to get Wiggins, and a pick in each round of the 2021 draft. They used the second-round pick to acquire Oubre last offseason from the OKC Thunder.
The Warriors have a number of options that they can utilize with these picks. They could package them up and try to get higher in the draft but they would not be willing to part with a player of the quality required to make this happen. None of the teams who own a higher pick would want to get two lower picks in this draft.
The wiser option for the Warriors is to use both their picks to select players who can help them now and in the future. The Warriors are in a tremendous position where they are not relying on their picks to produce too much in their first year and can develop without pressure.
