San Antonio Spurs: 5 offseason roster moves they need to make
San Antonio Spurs offseason roster move No. 2: Re-sign Patty Mills.
The longest-tenured member of the Spurs squad, Patty Mills has always managed to get another contract based on his floor spacing. He has also shown a tremendous ability to run the Spurs’ second unit over the years thanks to tremendous decision making.
Mills has always been suspect on defense but has always made up for it at the other end of the court. Mills took the second most shots from beyond the arc for the team with 6.3 per game. His percentage was also the second-best, with Mills shooting the 3-ball at 37.5 percent for the season.
At 32 years of age, Mills has some decent years left in the league and is the only member of the Spurs playing unit who knows what it takes to win in the Finals. Anyone who follows the Spurs will not forget the 3-point barrage he unleashed to help them win their last title.
Mills needs to be the player who is hopefully able to bridge the gap between the last successful Spurs teams and the next successful era for the franchise. Mills is the consummate professional who will continue to space the floor for the Spurs until the next great shooter comes along.
