NBA: The 30 most unforgettable individual playoff runs: 18. Moses Malone (1983)

This was the crowning achievement of the Hall of Fame career for Moses Malone. In 1981, he was fantastic. In 1983, after changing teams, he was finally able to get over the top and earn his championship.

Philadelphia knew they were the favorites. Malone came into the postseason and famously declared “fo’-fo’-fo”, with the full confidence that they could end the rest of the league in three sweeps. Ultimately, the Sixers dropped one game in the Eastern Conference Finals, but a 13-game playoff run to the top is still almost unheard of.

Moses Malone was out of this world, averaging 26.0 points, 15.8 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. His lowest number of rebounds in a game in the run was 12, which he grabbed three times. He ended the Knicks with a 29 point, 14 rebound performance. To knock out the Bucks it was 28 points and 17 rebounds.

Finally came the Lakers and Kareem Adbul-Jabbar, whose run we chronicled before on this list. As good as he was, he was no match for Malone and the Sixers. In the final game of the season, Malone exploded for 24 points, 23 rebounds and three blocks. What a way to end the season and his long path to an NBA championship.
