San Antonio Spurs: 3 season goals for DeMar DeRozan in 2020-21
1. Get to the line more
DeRozan has always been a good shooter from the free-throw line at 82.9 percent for his career. He shot 451 free-throws last season and made 381, both of these numbers were good enough for 10th in the league.
So why should he get to the line more? Well, this equated to 6.6 attempts per game which is down from his career-high 8.7 attempts per game back in 2016-17. While this does not seem like much, getting to the line more will help the Spurs out in so many areas.
DeRozan was able to draw 216 fouls while shooting the ball last season. This presented the Spurs with 51 and-one opportunities. This is where DeRozan is best able to help the Spurs with getting three points on a possession, it just has to be the old fashioned way.
The Spurs would also benefit from getting their opponents into earlier foul trouble. DeRozan has shown that he is elite when it comes to getting to the foul line. He is not going to get to James Harden’s level but he does not need to go to that extreme. With the Spurs going to a youth movement next season, every little bit is going to be important.
