Final Analysis

The Hawks entered the offseason considered a joke by many outside of Atlanta. After a bevy of smart but aggressive moves by Travis Schlenk, the team in the best position to succeed since he took over as general manager and head of basketball operations in 2017.

The additions Atlanta made through free agency bolster the lineup and address every major need the Hawks had entering the offseason. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing how much the team defense improves with the additions of Okongwu, Rondo, and Dunn.

We will also finally get to see Capela in a Hawks uniform, who was acquired last season right before the trade deadline but never suited up for the Hawks due to a heel injury. Capela is under contract through the 2022-23 season and gives the franchise the defensive anchor and rim protector it’s been longing for since Al Horford abandoned ship for the Boston Celtics.

Some may be worried about how the additions of Gallinari and Bogdanovic will affect the development of Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter. This writer says, don’t worry. Rondo is one of the smartest basketball players on the planet, and he’s been known to take the role of mentor very seriously.

The addition of these players will only help the development of the young Hawks. With all this newfound depth of quality players, expect training camp and practices to be the most competitive and intense they’ve been in a long time.

Players will have to work hard to improve their game and prove they deserve playing time, making everyone better. The addition of McMillan to the coaching staff was an amazing and surprising move.

Overall, the Atlanta Hawks had a very productive offseason. They drafted well, signed key free agents, and the team should be much better on both sides of the ball.

The offseason’s success will be determined by the regular season’s success, and hopefully, the postseason. Travis Schlenk and the front office laid the foundation; now it’s time for the coaching staff and players to bring it all to life.
