NBA free agency destination No. 2: LA Clippers

Another contender that will likely have a vacancy in their frontcourt is the LA Clippers.

After a tumultuous and underwhelming performance in the 2020 playoffs, the Clippers are presumably going to shake things up in the offseason. They will need to retool their roster to be able to contend with their mighty crosstown rivals, and one player that is likely to make a departure is Montrezl Harrell.

Harrell just won the NBA’s 6th Man of the Year award and is an unrestricted free agent in a weak free agent class. That adds up to a big payday that the Clippers are likely to pass on. One replacement option is Cousins.

He certainly would not be their first option. LA is in win-at-all-costs mode and, like the Mavericks, can’t afford to count on Cousins’ health. But they could sign him and allow him to fight for backup minutes in training camp, with hopes that he can remain on the floor and be a contributor in a title chase.

The Clippers may not be an ideal fit for Cousins in his attempt to resurrect his career. The franchise is under heavy scrutiny and will be under the microscope for the entirety of next season. Also, Cousins’ minutes wouldn’t be guaranteed on a team that is a piece or two away from contending again. He needs to be able to showcase his talents on a team that can utilize him, which brings us to our next possible destination…
