NBA basketball cards: 5 incredible rookies still worth adding to your collection
By Josh Wilson
2) 2019 rookie NBA basketball cards worth collecting: Chuma Okeke, Magic
Chuma Okeke‘s rookie card became one of the hottest late commodities over the last few weeks and months largely due to the elongated season and the fact that 2019 season cards stopped being printed.
Okeke is one of the only rookies left from the 2019 class that we have yet to see a single second of NBA action from. Okeke suffered a major injury in the 2019 NCAA Tournament and slipped from a projected lottery pick to the Orlando Magic at No. 16. He signed a one-year deal with the Lakeland Magic, the G League affiliate, to rehabilitate his injury and all signs point to that having gone well.
Okeke is a pretty certain bet so long as there are no hitches with his injury recovery and re-acclimation to full-speed basketball. He was said to be pro-ready while at Auburn and could very well be one of the most polished players from the 2019 class.
But, since he technically hasn’t even signed his NBA deal and slipped out of the lottery, there aren’t very many cards of his in circulation, something I detailed more in this article. Supply and demand have had his stock rise way up.
For that reason, I don’t have him here as my top card to collect right now, I think he’s dangerously close to moving over to the “overhyped” category. If you already have some Chuma Okeke rookie cards, you might want to hold them for a long, long time. And if you see any at a price that speaks to you, it’s worth considering knowing the rarity behind them.
