Milwaukee Bucks trade partner No. 3: Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers were third in the league in pick and roll possessions averaging 26.7 per game. 51.3 percent of those possessions belonged to Damian Lillard as he averaged 13.7 per game. He shot 46.8 percent from the field on 10.6 attempts during these possessions. The field goal percentage allowed him to generate 15.8 points per game.

Lillard’s pick and roll production contributed to the team shooting 46.9 percent from the field on 71.3 attempts with them on the court. The field goal percentage helped them generate 92.3 points.

Unfortunately, the offense is significantly less effective when Lillard goes to the bench as his backup didn’t perform well in the pick and roll. Anfernee Simons shot 40.4 percent from the field on 2.4 attempts per game in 2.8 pick and roll possessions. The field goal percentage helped him generate 2.5 points per game.

Simons’ pick and roll production contributed to the team shooting 44.7 percent from the field on 27.6 attempts without Lillard on the court. The field goal percentage helped them generate 32.6 points.

Bledsoe would help Portland curve the statistical dropoff when Lillard is on the bench. More importantly, it wouldn’t be a complicated move for them to make as they can trade Simons and the 7.1 million trade exception from Sacramento to Milwaukee. The Bucks can include Simons in a trade package to acquire a veteran who complements Antetokounmpo.
