Golden State Warriors: 5 roster moves they must make in the coming offseason
5. Sign a big man.
The Warriors are a very perimeter heavy team and rightly so. The shooting of Curry and Thompson is something special to behold. This season they have Wiggins as the third scoring option which as said earlier should worry the rest of the league.
Green has always been a key piece on the defensive end because of his ability to take on opposition pivots and hold his own before stretching the floor on the offensive end. However, there is a potential issue with this next season, the Los Angeles Lakers being a prime example.
The Lakers, when they are at their best have one of the all-time greats playing point forward in LeBron James. They then have the incredibly talented Anthony Davis who can play the four or the five. Then they have specialist centers JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard.
Assuming all players come back next season, Green is not going to be as effective against such a frontcourt and will need help. The Warriors will only have the ability to sign players to minimum contracts, but they will be a tempting destination for players.
Looking at the available free agents, there are a couple of players who could prove valuable. Firstly there is Nerlens Noel who has signed one year deals with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the past two seasons. He is a defensive stopper who also plays well above the rim.
The second option is Thon Maker, who after a period with the Milwaukee Bucks was traded to the Detroit Pistons. He is a true stretch-five who becomes a defensive force in the playoffs. He cannot match is physically with the true pivots in the league but could add another perimeter dimension to the Warriors.
Whatever the Warriors do this offseason, barring injury, they will be a force again next season behind their four main guys.
