3. Guarantee Marquese Chriss.

The Golden Warriors are reaping the benefits of a long period of sustained success where they are not looking to re-sign a key piece of their roster this off-season. Instead, they are tinkering around the edges of a championship contender.

To this end, the three-year veteran Marquese Chriss should have his contract guaranteed. As discussed in the previous slides the Warriors are in need of good bench pieces at the lowest possible price.

Chriss, the 8th pick in the 2016 draft is a quality bench producer with career averages of 8.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.8 blocks per game. This comes at the cost of just $1.8 million next season.

Chriss originally signed with the Warriors in 2019 as a free agent. He was then waived in January 2020 before signing a two-way deal with the franchise eight days later. One month after being waived, the two-way contract was converted to a minimum salary deal.

While Chriss’s contract situation summed up the Warriors season in 2019-20, he could be a key piece moving forward. Behind Draymond Green and Kevon Looney, they are a little thin in the frontcourt.

Paschal is an undersized forward/center but, if the Warriors can help Chriss live up to his full potential, they will be even harder to stop next season.
